Helgoland in summer
Your summer vacation on the island

When the sun shines persistently over Helgoland in the summer months, our high seas island is transformed into a vacation paradise. Even the arrival is an experience with the crossing on the ship. On site then wide natural beaches, white sand and clear water – here no wishes remain open! The shallowly sloping southern beach of the dune presents itself family-friendly with calm water. With rushing surf, nature lovers will find a quiet spot on the beach to the north of the offshore bathing dune. Often the water temperature in the North Sea reaches around 20° C – a pleasant refreshment. During the day the DLRG takes care of your safety. Rent your beach chair right away for several days; this way you will have your domicile safe during your summer vacation on the island of Helgoland at your favorite spot.

Perfect sightseeing weather

Plan your perfect day: take a tour of the island by boat, play miniature golf, stroll along the promenade or walk along the three-kilometer cliff walkway on the upper land, past the smallest nature reserve, the “Lummenfelsen”, to the “Lange Anna”, Helgoland’s famous landmark.

Book one of the offered guided tours, visit one of the cafés or feel the sand and the cool North Sea water on your feet. The sunset at the northern tip of the Oberland is also breathtaking.

If the sun takes a breather, relax in our swimming pool “mare frisicum” and also visit the generously designed sauna area with Finnish sauna, brine steam bath and relaxation rooms with a unique view.

Art, culture and culinary

The entertainment program on Helgoland also surprises with a versatile offer. The cabaret stage offers modern and classical music, cabaret, magic and much more. When the weather is good, there is also an open-air cinema at the music pavilion every 14 days. Small and large regattas as well as cultural events, which convey the living history of Helgoland, complete the variety.

The local pubs and restaurants leave nothing to be desired: from fish rolls and home-style cooking to gourmet dishes such as Helgoland Knieper and the world-famous Helgoland lobster. Enjoy your meal!

Helgoland's summer highlights

A highlight is the annual Börteboot regatta in front of the island’s harbor. The ten-meter-long Helgoland Börteboote made of oak were recently declared a World Heritage Site and can pick up a high speed despite their massive appearance. The spectacle is accompanied by live music on the shore, and physical well-being is of course provided for. If you prefer to be out in nature, you must visit Helgoland for the “Lummensprung”: Between mid and late June, the still small chicks of the guillemot plunge into the roaring waters of the North Sea. A welcome motif for amateur photographers is also offered by the cute grey seals and harbor seals dozing on the dune in the summer temperatures.
