    Large groups of seals on the beach

    As summer comes to an end, the beaches are beginning to fill up again

    Large groups of grey seals and harbour seals can now be seen on the beaches of Heligoland. In addition to marine mammals, enthusiastic ornithologists also find limicolts and migratory birds in the swells.

    A few additional points to consider

      • Bring binoculars and a camera if you want to observe the animals
      • As the weather becomes increasingly stormy, large piles of seaweed may wash ashore, attracting birds. Seals can occasionally be found resting among the seaweed, too. They are not always immediately visible, as their colouring can make them difficult to spot
      • Please keep a distance of 30 metres from the animals
      • If necessary, the responsible community staff (rangers) are authorised to penalise irresponsible behaviour by expelling individuals from the area
